Korean chicken soup / Dak Gomtang

Korean chicken soup or Dak Gomtang is a popular Korean dish, it’s so easy to make that you don’t even need to go to Korean restaurants.

Dak Gomtang is very simple to cook, it doesn’t get tired of cooking because you boil it and add a little aromatic vegetable.

I have cooked it so many times that when the weather is cold it is one of the things I cook, Korean chicken soup (Dak Gomtang) with kimchi is delicious and the best combination.

Dak Gomtang is a traditional Korean dish using whole chicken that is really delicious. This is the best idea for the whole family because with one chicken you can eat a lot without having to spend more for another meal.

What are the ingredients of (Korean chicken soup Dak Gomtang)

1 whole chicken

2 cloves of garlic and peel it.

Ginger 1 inch pieces (If you don’t like ginger, it’s okay not to add it)

1 large onion and if small add 1 1/2

Onion leeks cut long

Optional

You can buy some aromas for the broth at the Korean store that you just put on the chicken and you can boil it, this is the fastest way to cook chicken.

Just put these ingredients inside the chicken’s stomach and add water and you can boil it.

These are the only ingredients of Dak Gomtang, and you can cook it. Koreans have different styles of cooking Dak Gomtang, but this is a quick cooking.

Instruction how to cook the Dak Gomtang

Reminder!!

Do not add salt to the chicken while it is boiling, as it contains ingredients that flavor the chicken.

  • First, wash the whole chicken well and put it in a large pot.

  • Second, put the peeled onions, garlic and onion leeks in the chicken that you put in the pot

  • Fourth, boil it for 40 to 50 minutes on medium heat, cover and wait for it to soften.

  • Fifth, when the chicken is soft, take the whole chicken and put it on a large plate and you can put it on the table.

The ingredients I wrote above are the cheapest way to cook chicken. If you have other ingredients at home, you can add them.

  1. Separate the whole chicken from its broth.
  2. Take a separate bowl to put the chicken broth.
  3. Place a mixture of salt and ground pepper in a small saucer to dip the chicken in.
  4. Slice red chili for those who like to eat spicy.
  5. Slice onion leeks to put in the same bowl to add flavor to the soup.
  6. Put a little salt and pepper in your bowl so you can control the saltiness of your soup.

Things to do with leftover Korean chicken soup Dak Gomtang.

Did you guys know that leftover Dak Gomtang can also be made into porridge?

Because when I cook it, there are often leftovers, my colleagues don’t want to eat it again, so I looked for a way to not waste the leftover food. Porridge is super easy to make with leftover Dak Gomtang.

Porridge ingredients

  • Soup and leftover chicken from Dak Gomtang
  • Chop the onion into small pieces
  • Chop 1 carrots into small pieces
  • If you have zuchini at home you can add it ( chop the zuchini into small pieces) if big just used the half of it. if you don’t have zuchini, you can still cook the porridge
  • Salt/ ground pepper( korean Dasida )if you don’t have it just used (chicken knorr cubes) or Ajinomoto
  • Chop the onion leeks
  • Korean Sesame oil seasoning for porridge, if you don’t have it at home you can still cook it.

How to cook it?

  • Boil the (Dak Gomtang) and add a moderate amount of rice. (original rice / sticky rice)
  • And when the rice has boiled and thickened, add the carrots, zucchini, onion and shredded chicken.

  • Add spices, and if you think it’s good, add chopped onion leeks, mix well and finally add 1 spoon of sesame oil.

It’s very quick to make porridge using leftovers (Dak Gomtang) promise guys, it’s also delicious, especially when you’re sick, it’s one of the things that makes your food work.
