The Eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano
Do you remember from my last blog that I just came from Mambukal Hot Spring Resort which is near the volcano. I just posted this on June 7, 2024. If you want to see it, just go to my main site.
It was so painful to feel that when I got home I found out recently from my acquaintance that the volcano had erupted.
It reportedly exploded on Monday June 3, 2024. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, it reached a height of 5,000 meters. It exploded at 6:51 pm which lasted for 6 minutes
Mount Kanlaon Volcano
Mount Kalaon is called the twin volcanoes of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental. It is 36 kilometers from Bacolod. Did you know that this volcano is the highest in Negros reaching 2,465 meters and another volcano also reaches 2,200 meters.
Just for more information that the so-called Lugud Crater is a living volcano and Lambak Margaja is a lake that is visited by tourists.
This volcano flows through three hot water springs, Bungol Hot Spring, Mambucal Hot Spring and Bucalan Hot Spring. These hot springs are now a popular tourist spot in Bacolod.
The Eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano
Its current eruption has only happened recently, giving fear to people who live near the Kanlaon volcano.
The volcanic eruption produced a massive incandescent plume that quickly rose up to 5,000 meters above the vent.
After the volcano erupted, it caused two volcanic earthquakes with reports of coarse ash fall and sulfurous odors on the western slopes of the Kanlaon volcano.

People are now struggling with how to clean up so many flowing lahars in their area.
