The Matlag Cave in Sipalay City

Among the number of caves in the country of the Philippines, this is also one of the famous ones that you can find online.

My three friends invited me to go to Matlag Cave. I searched on Facebook and other sites to see what this cave really looks like. I liked it so I said when I’m not busy, I’ll come.

Matlag Cave Experience

A very fun vacation with our three friends because here we get to walk like ducks because we keep our heads from getting hit by stalactites. While my two friends were walking first, I was behind them and I joked with them.

I told them that there were 2 baby ducks walking around 🙂 ahaha we were laughing so hard that the staff told us not to make too much noise. There are places where you have to bend down because the size of the stalactites can hit your head.

With the size of the stalactites you can reach and touch it. The guides remind you to always take care of your head first because they are quite sharp and can injure you.

There are also areas in the cave that you have to squeeze in because there is a small way into it. Another thing you should do is watch everything you step on and touch because there are sharp rocks.

Things to do

• Bring a flashlight because there is no light inside the cave
• Wear a helmet for your protection
• Use mosquito lotion first so you don’t get bitten. There are really many mosquitoes inside the cave
• Bring water bottle
• Must wear shoes

When we went to the cave, we didn’t have a flashlight with us so the staff there let us borrow one. We are so grateful to have it.

This cave is not as alive as Mabinay cave. Therefore, the cave in Matlag cave also has calcites formed in different parts that are forbidden to touch.

I thought the hole we were going to enter was quite big, but it was small enough that only one person could enter the hole, you wouldn’t think there was a cave under it.

When you enter here, just a few steps away you will see the clear water of the sea but it is so dark inside that only a flashlight illuminates it.

The sea water at the bottom of the cave reaches up to the waist, which is not scary to walk because the water is clear.

I just didn’t get many pictures because I was busy with my walk and the huge rocks that surrounded me. My friend was the only one who got a picture but it was only a few because it was really dark inside.

There are also parts of water that are knee deep. Every time you turn around, you will see all the rocks surrounding you.

Reasons for the growth of sharp stones in the cave

Many wonder why the cave has the sharp rocks you see here. According to the guide, it grows because of small drops of water above the cave, this is the source of stalactites and stalactites.

We had a good experience inside, it was cold and so quiet that when you spoke your voice sounded like an echo.
