Ulot River Travel Guide
Another wonderful activity we will discover in Eastern Samar Province. This is the Ulot River which is one of the largest and longest rivers in Samar which reaches 90km.
The headwater starts at San Jose de Buan in Western Samar. It passes downstream to Paranas and ends at Can Avid in Eastern Samar.
One of the best memories for me is going to this place. What we did in the Ulot River was very exciting where we rode a boat with a faster water flow.
We were five friends who went to Ulot River because we didn’t have a work at the time and we wanted to vacation in a place that we could definitely make the most of.
One of my friends is from Samar so this is one of the places he recommended for us to visit. He told us that this is one of the famous tourist spots in their area.
Ulot River in Eastern Samar Province
It is the largest river in Samar with a total length of 90 kilometers. Its total length is estimated at more than 500 kilometers.
The Ulot River can be found within the protected area covered by a famous Samar Island Natural Park or SINP.
It was created by PD No. 442 on August 13, 2003. It is considered the main botanical diversity center of the Philippines.
As a Filipino, it is also amazing that we still have a beautiful river that can only be seen in our country. In the city where I live there is a river nearby but it is full of mud and dirt which makes the river look ugly.
Hot to get there
- From Metro Manila you will take an airplane to Tacloban because it is one of the nearest airports in Samar.
Book Plane ticket here :
“It is better for you to buy a ticket a month before the flight because you will only pay for it at a cheap price.”
- When you exit Tacloban Airport, just turn left and you will go to the high way to board a Jeep/van/bus going to Catbalogan tell the driver to take you to Buray Junction.
- Take a bus going to Borongan or Taft, and get off in front of Torpedo at Sitio Campo Uno.
Ulot River Travel Guide
Our journey to get here was easy because my friend already knew the ins and outs of going to Ulot River.
Before our boat ride, the staff talked to us about what we should do while on the boat. Their staff also gave us jackets and helmets for our protection as well. When you bring a cellphone or other gadgets, you should put them in a dry bag.
Every boat we rode had a limited capacity. Its maximum is only 5 participants. You have 3 companions to guide you on the boat ride. One of them is the boatman, point man and guide who will guide you so that you can definitely enjoy your vacation here.
The speed of the boat is quite fast because it is motorized. Do you know the first time I rode a boat I was nervous ahahaha later when I got used to it my nervousness disappeared and was replaced by excitement.
The first part of our adventure was a 40 minute, we felt the boat crash on the rocks we passed.
When we arrived at Deni Point, our guide let us down first because the boat passage is quite small.
We walked for a while until we passed the big rock. One of our guides took us to the area of the river where we could swim and jump on the huge rocks.
What we did was take pictures and enjoy swimming. Our stay in the area is only 30 minutes.
After we were at Deni Point, the guide called us to leave to continue the boat ride. The second time we boarded the boat, we felt so happy because the strong current of water, this is really the exciting part of all.
Our second Torpedo boat ride was 20 minutes. Since it’s motorized, expect a fast pace and be accompanied by a strong current of water.
What I did to get rid of the nervousness was to shout ahahaha, the guide next to me just laughed.
